Mr. Richard Smith Obituary

Richard Smith, 81 of Amarillo, Texas was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. He was born on April 7, 1938, to the late Samuel Smith Sr. and Sally Burt Smith in Clarksville, Texas. He attended schools in Clarksville and Rule, Texas. He moved with his family to Amarillo and began working for the City of Amarillo in the sanitation department where he was employed for many years. He then later operated his own business shining shoes for over 30 years. Affectionately known as the "Shoe Shine Man" by all of his customers and friends he shined shoes at the YMCA the Westgate Mall and the Midnight Rodeo until he became ill. Mr. Smith was also a faithful volunteer to the local nursing homes and hospitals. He was a member of North Heights Church of Christ, he also attended St. John Baptist church with his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Sally Smith; daughter, Donna Kay Smith, two brothers, Samuel Smith Jr and Willie James Smith and one sister, Jurline Ford.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife: Dorothy Smith of Amarillo; six sons: Ronnie Smith and Ricky Smith of Colorado; Richard Smith Jr and Timothy Smith both of California; L.T. Smith and Alex Smith of Amarillo; three daughters: Gloria Smith and Carolyn Smith of California, and Linda (Kevin) Ramzy of Amarillo; two stepdaughters: Lulu (Kevin) Jacobs of Amarillo and Clarissa Harden of Lubbock; three stepsons: Mikel (Vicki) Johnson of Oklahoma City, Kevin (Cecelia) Johnson and Corey (Kryssalee) Goudeau both of Amarillo; five brothers: Dock (Bobbie) Smith, Wiley Smith, SW Smith all of Amarillo, Mal Smith of California and Robert "Bobby" Smith of Washington; four sisters: Emmer Hale of Arkansas, Betty Sue (Willie) Calhoun of Florida, Flora (Elgin) Williams of Washington and Mary Jane (Curtis) Redmond of Amarillo, Texas; 45 grandchildren, 36 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A vitiation will be held at St. John Baptist Church on Monday, October 15, 2018, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm followed by funeral services conducted under the leadership of Pastor, Anthony Harris beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow services at the Llano Cemetery.
